How pay rates convert

Every pay rate is the same income expressed over a different time unit, so converting between them is just multiplication and division anchored on the yearly total. The core relationship is annual = hourly × hours per week × weeks per year. From that annual figure the others follow directly: monthly = annual ÷ 12, weekly = annual ÷ weeks per year, and hourly reverses the chain by dividing the annual amount by total hours worked. Because all four fields are linked through the annual total, typing a number into any one of them updates the rest. The two schedule inputs — hours per week and weeks per year — control the conversion, so setting them to match your real working pattern is what makes the result accurate for you rather than a generic 40-hour assumption.

Choosing hours and weeks

The schedule matters more than people expect. A standard full-time year is often modeled as 40 hours across 52 weeks, which equals 2,080 paid hours. If you take two weeks of unpaid leave, use 50 weeks; if you work part-time, lower the hours per week. Note that monthly pay is defined here as the annual amount divided evenly by twelve, which is how salaried pay is usually quoted — it is not the same as four weekly paychecks, since most months are slightly longer than four weeks. Adjusting hours and weeks lets you compare a salaried offer against an hourly or contract rate on a genuine like-for-like basis.

Gross pay and limitations

These figures are gross pay — the amount before income tax, payroll taxes, retirement contributions, health insurance and other deductions. Actual take-home pay is lower and depends heavily on your country, region and personal withholdings, which this tool does not model. It also assumes a steady rate with no overtime premiums, bonuses, commissions or shift differentials; add those separately if they apply. Everything is calculated locally in your browser with no account or tax-table lookup, so it is a fast, private way to compare offers — just remember to estimate deductions before judging real spending power.

Frequently asked questions

What formula is used?
Annual = hourly × hours per week × weeks per year. Monthly is annual ÷ 12, weekly is annual ÷ weeks per year, and hourly reverses the chain.
How many weeks should I use?
Use 52 for paid time off included, or about 50 if you take roughly two unpaid weeks. Adjust to match your real working year.
Is this gross or net pay?
Gross — before taxes, insurance and other deductions. Net take-home pay is lower and depends on your location and withholdings.
Are tax rates applied?
No. There are no external APIs or tax tables; this converts gross pay only using the schedule you enter.
